Emily Broussard’s “Interior Duality” Oil Painting Show Opens at Texas Heritage Museum

HILLSBORO, TEXAS—The Texas Heritage Museum opened a new exhibit in the Art Gallery space titled, “Interior Duality,” oil paintings by Emily Broussard, professional artist. The exhibit will be up Feb. 3 through March 7, 2020.

Broussard is a born Texan who spent much of her young life in Richardson but lived in Germany two different times. She has drawn for as long as she can remember, but she once was given a book about drawing facial expressions from her mother, that’s when she became captivated with the human figure. It was at this moment in time that she decided to become an artist.

Broussard attended Southeastern Louisiana University and graduated with a BA and an emphasis in Studio Arts. She obtained a Master of Fine Arts from Texas A&M-Commerce. Painting is her primary focus within the studio arts realm. Her preferred subject matter is figurative with an emphasis on the female narrative; current body of work focuses on self-portraits in the appearance of fictitious and historical female figures. She feels she is giving herself and female characters such as, Judith, Elizabeth I and Sibyls, a renewed and empowered voice through her large-scale paintings.

Broussard’s pieces have been shown in over 25 exhibitions from Colorado to New Jersey. She is a member of three professional artist organizations, and she exudes passion for art with a lengthy list of volunteer work she has conducted for college students. She is currently an adjunct instructor of studio arts at Texas A&M-Commerce, which is something she realized she wanted to pursue while in graduate school. Broussard adores teaching at the college level and enjoys meaningful art discussions about artwork, art history and contemporary art.

The Texas Heritage Museum serves an active and successful role in the educational and service missions of Hill College; and brings increasing national and international prestige to Hill College. The Texas Heritage Museum is comprised of three divisions: Galleries & Collection, Historical Research Center, and the Hill College Press. Furthermore, on the front of the museum grounds is the Home of the Official Texas State Medal of Honor Memorial to Native-Born Texans. 

The Museum’s hours of operation are Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. and Fridays 8 a.m.-4 p.m.
